The FDA statement was based on  "3 or 4" case reports, and not on a controlled study.  It did not show a "causal relationship" between singulair and the suicides, It is also unclear as to whether or not this reflects an increase in the expected incidence of suicides over what is expected to occur in the general population. 

Merck, the producer of singulair, pointed out that none of the 11,000 people enrolled in 40 singulair studies committed suicide.

It may take the FDA up to 9 months to offer a definitive recommendation.
